Homeowners who install cheap energy solar panels can increase their property's value by up to five per cent of its total worth, an expert has claimed.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, said that as well as increasing a home's value, solar panels can generate up to £700 a year under the feed-in tariff scheme, helping homeowners to earn a significant amount from selling power back to the grid.
Furthermore, installing solar panels helps to increase energy efficiency and can slash around £100 off annual bills from energy suppliers.
"Homeowners will not only see a financial gain with a bolstered market value, slashing bills and making a financial return - [they] are also making a strong contribution to the future homeowner and future generations," Mr Holmes commented.
He added, however, that homeowners must understand that the job does not end with installing solar panels, photovoltaic cells or a ground source heat pump - it is about consuming less energy.
