York residents set to give views on wind turbine scheme - 02/02/2011

Cheap electricity customers in York are set to give their opinions on a proposed nearby wind farm site.

The York Press reports that residents near Copmanthorpe and Askham Bryan on the outskirts of the city could give their views at a public consultation on March 2nd, following energy supplier Banks Renewables' expected planning permission application.

Plans include installing up to five turbines, each twice the height of York Minster, on farmland in order to power 8,300 homes once they are operational.

Phil Dyke, development director at the renewable energy company, told the newspaper: "Feedback from local communities always plays an important part in shaping the proposals we put forward, and we will be holding a number of events at which local people and other consultees will be able to give their opinions and ask any questions."

He said that the power generated by onshore wind schemes has "a crucial role" in meeting the UK's local and national cheap energy demands.
