Residents save money through retrofit programme - 25/03/2011
Cheap electricity users in a Hampshire town have collectively saved hundreds on pounds on their utility bills by transforming their homes into energy efficient properties.
The Petersfield Post reports that householders living in 13 properties in Borough Grove have had their homes revamped with loft and wall insulation, new cheap gas boilers and solar panels.
Resident Jenny Woodward told the newspaper that the changes have had a noticeable impact on her household expenditure.
"The bills were a lot cheaper - there was £128 difference," she explained.
"Bearing in mind what sort of winter we've had, I was quite shocked how different it was."
The founder of the project behind the retrofit programme, Terena Plowright, told the news source that the results are "truly revolutionary".
"It has given people in social housing the opportunities to live in properties with a level of comfort that is not attainable in the present housing stock," she added.
