Energy customers urged to seek out help - 28/12/2011

People who are performing an energy comparison and looking to switch gas supplier have been urged to seek out extra information about how they can keep their homes warm.

One MP in Hertfordshire, Mike Penning, has encouraged his constituents to call a free service that can advise if they are eligible for grants or subsidies to help meet the cost of heating bills this winter, the Watford Observer reports.

Paid for by the UK's major energy suppliers and backed by organisations such as Age UK and Citizens Advice, the Home Heat Helpline has trained staff that can help determine what assistance - such as free insulation or benefit entitlements – individuals can claim.

Mr Penning said: "Anyone who is concerned about staying warm should call the Home Heat Helpline and seek advice."

His statement was recently echoed by Angus MP Mike Weir, who also urged residents in his area to take advantage of the scheme, the Guide and Gazette reported.
