Going green 'does not mean higher bills' - 01/05/2012

People looking to go green may find they are just as able to obtain a cheap electricity tariff as those using fossil fuels, one energy supplier has stated.

Responding to a speech by prime minister David Cameron last week, Green Energy UK said it is a "misconception" that using renewable power sources is more expensive.

Chief executive of the firm Doug Stewart said Mr Cameron's speech "casts an unfair aspersion that green and renewable energy is expensive in the UK".

Green Energy UK noted the energy market in the UK is becoming more competitive due to a number of smaller suppliers breaking into the sector.

These firms are able to deliver value for money due to having lower overheads and can offer renewable energy tariffs to provide eco-friendly electricity to households, the company continued.

At his address to the Clean Energy Ministerial last week, the prime minister stated it is vital green energy becomes cheaper in order to meet carbon reduction targets and protect consumers from rising prices.

Switching to a green energy tariff can slash your CO2 footprint by two tonnes and also save you £100s a year! Click here to compare green energy tariffs.
