Gas and electricity customers could soon see simplified energy bills come through their letterboxes under new Ofgem proposals.
The energy watchdog is to carry out market research to determine how to make fuel bills easier to understand, such as by removing complex language and key words from annual statements and price rise announcements.
Marketing Week reports an Ofgem spokesman as commenting: "We need to help energy customers engage more with the energy market because many find it confusing to pick out a good deal."
The representative added: "This project could lead to a possible standardisation of the language suppliers can use."
Meanwhile, the regulator is also set to look at how energy suppliers deal with their customers when they are paying off debt, as some are repaying bills at a faster rate than others.
