A government minister has warned the Big Six energy suppliers that they could fall short of targets to install energy efficiency measures in domestic energy customers' homes.
Energy secretary Chris Huhne explained that 58 per cent of British homes now have adequate loft insulation, while the same percentage have cavity wall insulation, but he said suppliers need to do more to make consumers aware of the options available.
He commented: "More and more people realise that insulation can save you money and make your home cosier."
Mr Huhne added: "More than £100 can be knocked off your bill if you get your loft lagged and cavity walls filled and thanks to tough government targets for the Big Six, consumers can get free or discounted insulation."
A total of 3.5 million households are set to benefit from the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target by the end of next year, helping to cut their energy bills.
