Many families who are looking to compare gas and electricity prices could find there are several other steps they can take to cut their energy bills.
An analysis by Rockwool estimated households that take the time to insulate lofts, floors and walls could see their energy costs reduced by up to 24 per cent.
It noted there are several options people can explore to receive subsidies or grants for these items, such as the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target programme.
Corporate affairs director at Rockwool Paula Bateman said it is a "worrying contradiction" that despite rising energy bills and high levels of fuel poverty, take-up of this initiative remains "disappointingly low".
Elsewhere, Citizen's Advice will be organising a week of events next month in order to offer families practical advice on how to reduce their gas and electricity bills.
