A landmark deal between the Coalition Government and the major energy suppliers could reduce gas and electricity prices for millions of people.
The plans, announced by Deputy Prime Minister, mean that the big six energy companies will have to write to their customers every year to inform them of the best energy deal for their needs.
Only seven out of ten people are currently on the best energy tariff for them and most people will use the same tariff for years, regardless of whether their energy requirements changes over time.
Nick Clegg hopes to get bills as low as possible, saying that he would like to see more engagement between customers and energy firms.
Director of energy at Consumer Focus Audrey Gallacher welcomed the ideas, but stated they need to be part of a wider strategy to help customers to reduce their energy bills.
