SSE announces £1.3 million profit - 18/05/2012
Energy provider Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) recorded pre-tax profits of £1.33 million over the past year.
Its gains came despite the company being faced with what chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin described as issues SSE has no control over.
The supplier's profit after tax came to £1.12 million.
He said the continuing economic uncertainty, bad weather and upheaval in the world's energy markets all affected earnings.
Lord Smith continued: "Higher wholesale gas prices, falling demand for energy and a succession of winter storms presented major challenges for the wholesale, retail and networks parts of SSE."
However, the firm's market-focused strategy and the commitment of its employees helped deliver profits.
Earlier this month, SSE was given £1.25 million fine in a case related to the use of doorstep sales aids in 2009.
