Business seek action on carbon reporting - 14/05/2012

A group of leading business electricity users have written to the government urging it to clarify whether it is to implement new rules on the reporting of carbon emissions.

BusinessGreen reports the letter sent to deputy prime minister Nick Clegg includes signatories such as Asda, National Grid, Sky and Philips.

It criticised a decision by the coalition last month to delay a long-awaited announcement on carbon reporting rules and called on Mr Clegg to intervene to ensure progress is made.

Highlighting previous legislation that called for a conclusion to be reached by April this year, the companies said it is "extremely disappointing" that the government has claimed it needs "some additional time to consider this evidence to come to a decision".

Recently, the Department of Energy and Climate Change hosted an international forum to discuss cutting carbon emissions and making improvements to energy efficiency around the world.
