Not-for-profit energy supplier announces price cuts - 04/03/2009

Homeowners may choose to switch gas and electricity companies following a price cut announcement from Ebico.

The company is the only not-for-profit energy firm in the UK and will be reducing the price of gas by 2.5 per cent and the cost of electricity by nine per cent.

Phile Levermore, the company's managing director, said that the reductions are being introduced to help alleviate fuel poverty and deliver a fairer pricing structure to customers.

Mr Levermore told easier.com: "We are pleased to announce that, unlike a number of the other supply companies, Ebico will be cutting the rates that apply to both our electricity and gas supplies."

He added that a Fuel Poverty Challenge is to be implemented to work towards cutting household domestic energy bills by £1 million in the aftermath of the freezing winter months.

Customers taking part in the challenge can knock £200 from the annual bill of a low-income household if they cut their own usage by ten per cent.

More than five million households across the UK are thought to be living in fuel poverty.
