E.ON cuts gas bills - 06/07/2009

Energy provider E.ON has announced its customers are set to benefit from cheap energy bills thanks to a decision to cut prices.

The company has revealed it is to cut gas prices by 3.3 per cent immediately and this should result in an average saving of as much as £25 per year, the energy supplier said.

It is believed as many as 1.8 million people in the UK will benefit from the cheap energy supplies, with this latest cut in gas bills coming just three months after E.ON delivered a nine per cent cut in its electricity bills.

"At last here is some welcome news for consumers from one of the big six energy providers. It may only be a small price drop of 3.3 per cent, and a mere saving of £25 per household per year, but at least it is a step in the right direction," said Mark Todd, director at switching service energyhelpline.

He added that customers may be in line to receive more good news from energy suppliers in the months and years ahead.

"There has been a lot of focus on predicting the energy market for the next five to ten years and talk of potential price rises. At energyhelpline, our research of the wholesale markets points to prices being flat to downwards for at least the next year," Mr Todd explained.

Multiple price rises from energy supplies during 2008 left large numbers of households struggling to cope, but since the turn of the year companies have begun to reduce their energy bills for customers.
