Local residents looking to compare energy prices could be encouraged by an announcement that Aberdeen has the potential to become a clean energy leader.
Energy minister Joan Ruddock said employees working in the oil and gas industries in the city could adapt their skills for cleaner energy production and Aberdeen could become a central force in a global renewable energy sector worth £3 trillion, reports the Press and Journal.
She added that as well as helping the development of clean energy, the change could help stimulate the economy with many new jobs created.
Ms Ruddock told the paper: "The low carbon industry is worth £3 trillion. We need the skills that have been brought to bear from the exploration of oil and gas to be used in terms of the manufacture of the renewables programme in the UK."
Scotland leads the UK in terms of renewable energy generation, but has been criticised for refusing to consider nuclear power as a viable technology to develop alongside it.
