M&S teams up with energy suppliers SSE to offer solar packages - 06/09/2010

High street retailer Marks & Spencer has teamed up energy suppliers Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to offer two new solar energy packages.

The solar photovoltaic and solar thermal packages will include installation of roof-mounted solar panels by a Microgeneration Certification Scheme-approved installers.

Under the scheme, the photovoltaic option will offer ten to 30 square metre panels that generate free electricity and earn up to £1,000 a year as part of feed-in tariff scheme. Solar photovoltaic customers will be able earn a tax-free return for every unit of electricity they generate over the next 25 years.

There will also be three different solar thermal panel systems available with the ability to meet up to 50 per cent of a typical household's water needs. The offer includes a free assessment, with prices starting from £7,999 for a solar PV system and £3,999 for a solar thermal system.

Richard Gillies, director of Plan A and sustainable business at M&S, said: "Installing a solar solution will help customers save money over the long term by reducing their energy bills and will lead to significant cuts in customers' carbon emissions."
