Customers wanting to compare energy tariffs should do so now ahead of future price hikes.
ScottishPower is implementing 19 per cent rises to its gas supply and ten per cent rises for its electricity this August, which has prompted the Scottish parliament to consider summoning the energy supplier to explain its rationale.
Deputy convenor of Holyrood's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee John Wilson commented: "This rise will impact severely not only on the wider economy but on the economies of individual households.
"It would be useful both to get ScottishPower and Ofgem to the committee to question the validity of the charges and the increases being proposed," he noted, adding that the energy supplier's move had "opened the door" to other energy suppliers following suit.
A spokesman for ScottishPower said: "We have always fully co-operated with the Scottish parliament and the Scottish government and look forward to receiving the committee's invitation to attend."
