Consumers save 1.5m with Huge Switch - 06/06/2012

Consumers looking for the best gas and electricity prices have saved over £1.5 million through energyhelpline.com's Huge Switch campaign.

More than 8,500 people took advantage of the initiative, which ended last Friday (June 1st).

Each person saved an average of £176 on their energy bills for 2013, which included £131 off the cost of the tariff and £45 in cashback.

Director at energyhelpline.com Mark Todd said he's delighted to have helped so many people save money.

He said: "In these unsettled economic times it's clear that the cash poor British public is looking for simple ways that it can cut costs and save money [and] collective bargaining schemes are certainly one of the ways forward."

The Huge Switch scheme also received support from energy secretary Edward Davey.

He said the campaign made it easier for consumers to shop around for the best prices and change energy supplier.

The scheme was due to end on May 28th, but energyhelpline.com decided to extend it so more people could take advantage of the deals on offer.

But Mr Todd reminded homeowners they can still use independent price comparison sites to compare energy providers and get the best deals, even though Huge Switch has closed.

He said gas and electricity prices are set to rise even further next year, so it is important for consumers to find tariffs that promise no increases for the next 12 months.
