A new Energy Saving Bundle (ESB) package has been launched to give tenants in Gentoo social housing homes the chance to make their properties more energy efficient without a hefty bill up front.
The Sunderland Echo reports how customers have been given the opportunity to install solar photovoltaic panels, new boilers and double-glazed windows.
In return for the energy efficiency measures, tenants will receive a small weekly charge of between £1.06 and £1.59.
Director of Gentoo Green Sally Hancox explained how the scheme has been received positively with almost four out of five customers agreeing to have work done.
Speaking about the benefits of efficiency improvements, Ms Hancox said: "This can help alleviate fuel poverty with customers using less energy to warm their homes, ultimately enriching their lives."
