Smart meter deal agreed for business energy use - 05/02/2010

Business energy customers with British Gas could soon be supplied with a smart meter following a new deal between the provider and Bglobal.

The new meters allow customers to read their business gas and electricity use and are designed to put an end to the need for estimated bills.

This deal extends the smart metering scheme British Gas Business had already undertaken.

Head of energy services at the British Gas Business Jeff Whittingham said that customers have stated how they find the smart meters easy to use and that they help to raise awareness of business gas and electricity use.

The announcement forms a key part of the plan for rolling out smart meters, he said, noting that the target is to have 100,000 such meters in use by the end of 2010.

Recent figures from the Carbon Trust suggested that a number of companies are becoming more concerned about rising business energy prices.
