Renewables 'can help with business energy' - 01/11/2010

Firms should invest more in renewable business energy, it has been claimed.

Alex Randall, a spokesperson for the Centre for Alternative Technology, said that there needs to be more investment into the renewables sector from businesses.

He added that it is important for continued government investment in a drive away from fossil fuels.

"Whether the market alone will produce enough development of renewables is debatable," he said.

He argued that aside from business energy investment, government funding will be needed to put in place a strong renewable energy infrastructure and to stop further development of more polluting forms of energy generation.

His comments follow claims from Duncan Botting of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre that a key issue now is not the availability of funding but how to make sure funding is used most effectively.

Both large corporations and smaller organisations need to overcome a range of barriers to ensure that they can develop green business energy, he suggested.
