Consumers who opt to switch energy suppliers could save hundreds - 06/01/2009

Consumers who decide to tackle soaring energy prices in the UK market could save hundreds by choosing to switch energy suppliers.

Shopping around could produce annual savings of over £450, according to figures from Energyhelpline.com. Due to a series of escalating prices from all of the UK's major energy suppliers through 2008, research conducted by Tickbox.net for LloydsTSBCompare.com found that 80 per cent of Britons have seen their energy bills rise. Despite this, a quarter of those surveyed did not believe that comparing prices would have an effect.

Steve Grainger, of LloydsTSBCompare.com, said: "A concerning 40 per cent of Brits said they don't know how they will cover their bills if prices continue to increase."

The website encouraged homeowners to look at their household bills on 30th December last year in what they dubbed 'tackle your bills day', in a bid to get more people to review their outgoings and spend some time searching for better deals.
