People looking to compare energy prices and switch to cleaner sources may soon be looking to Cornwall for the best deals, reports the Scotsman.
In a move that has angered Scottish campaigners, the Westminster government has announced plans to channel renewable energy funding to the south-west of England in a bid to create a new centre for research into wave and tidal energy generation.
Scottish campaigners have argued that the result will be a lack of funds for projects north of the border, despite the fact that Scotland has massive potential for the renewable energy sector.
Dr Richard Dixon, director of environmental organisation WWF Scotland, told the paper: "I certainly wouldn't want to talk down the value of investing in Cornwall, but actually Scotland has rather better waves and rather better tides, so we should be putting lots of money there."
A spokesman for the Westminster government told the paper that funding will continue for projects across the UK, including Scotland.
Wind farms remain the highest-profile form of clean energy generation, although wave and tidal power could prove more reliable.
