Customers urged to switch energy as winter approaches - 30/09/2009

Energy consumers have been advised to seek new energy suppliers as winter approaches, with a new range of cheap energy tariffs coming onto the market.

The Daily Mirror reports that the onset of winter has triggered a number of lower tariffs to be brought onto the market, with consumers being urged to take advantage of the new opportunities.

"The past few days have seen the big six suppliers skirmishing to be the cheapest for gas and electricity across the country," the newspaper reports.

It points out that E.On has pledged to better any offer provided by its rivals until March next year, while Scottish Power has also introduced a reduced tariff for energy customers paying online.

As a result, many other suppliers are expected to cut their energy prices over the coming weeks and the newspaper suggests people could benefit by switching companies.

Scottish Power has recently launched its Online Energy Saver 7 tariff, making it the cheapest of all the big six energy suppliers in the UK for those who pay their bills via the internet.
