Low carbon energy 'reduces energy bills' - 01/02/2010

De-centralised low carbon can play a key role in reducing energy bills, the Micropower Council has said.

The UK energy body said micropower energy systems reduce gas and electricity consumption from energy suppliers and help cut carbon emissions.

The Micropower Council said de-centralised low carbon can also help increase the number of environmentally-friendly jobs and create a real mass market for micro-generation.

Grace Bennett, policy and communications manager at Micropower Council, said energy suppliers are keen to support the government in bringing the UK closer to a low carbon economy and to greater low carbon energy generation.

"Suppliers may be on the delivery side as the scheme is brought forward in the New Year," she commented.

Ms Bennett added that the government is obliged to spend money on financial incentives for companies to use green business gas and electricity and for domestic consumers to use clean energy too.

"It's a now or never situation and we need these ambitious incentives if we are to meet these 2020 targets," she said.
