It is "crucial" for householders to look into energy efficiency measures in their homes, so that they might save money on their cheap energy bills.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, commented: "We would like to see more people improving their homes, but it is a question of raising the cash to do those jobs."
His remarks came as chancellor George Osborne announced a new carbon tax in yesterday's (March 23rd) Budget.
The move is expected to raise £3.2 billion by 2016 and could increase the amount bill payers spend on their cheap electricity supply.
As a result, homeowners could look at ways to improve their energy usage around the house.
"Obviously it is all very well to look at new kitchens and new bathrooms and special heating, but really homeowners should be looking at energy efficient measures to improve their homes," noted Mr Leech.
"That includes loft insulation and cavity wall insulation."
