EastEnders found to be greenest soap - 17/06/2011

Those wanting to compare energy tariffs to get the best deal might be surprised to hear that characters from EastEnders have been named the greenest people in soapland.

Research carried out by EDF Energy revealed the renowned Mitchell family who reside off Albert Square are taking more action to reduce their carbon emissions than characters from other soaps.

Individuals from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street were also monitored by the energy supplier for a month and had their energy performance rated against a set of green criteria, which included taking public transport, turning off lights and walking or cycling.

Jim Poole, director of residential customers at EDF, commented: "While the research takes a light-hearted look at energy efficiency, EDF Energy is serious about helping Britons live more sustainably - that's why we founded Team Green Britain.

"By highlighting the green actions of the TV soap families we hope to encourage people to make more sustainable choices in their own everyday lives."
