People looking to compare energy suppliers to find a cheap electricity deal may be interested in a new report that states the UK could greatly increase its use of renewable power over the next two decades.
The study, conducted by the WWF, suggested the UK could generate between 60 and 90 per cent of its electricity needs from green sources by 2030 if the government makes a serious commitment to encourage investment in this sector.
Chief executive of the group David Nussbaum said the report is "inspiring, but also entirely realistic" and demonstrates that a "clean, renewable energy future really is within our grasp".
He added that greater exploitation of renewable sources will help to reduce the volatility of the energy market, which could mean consumers see lower bills as they will not be vulnerable to fluctuations in international gas and oil markets.
Recently, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg highlighted the government's commitment to green energy, stating increased investment in the area will be beneficial for both the environment and the economy.
