People looking to switch energy providers to get a cheap electricity deal may find they can also cut their bills by not leaving portable gadgets plugged in.
A study by E.ON, reported by the Daily Mail, estimated the UK wastes £134 million a year in power consumption through leaving mobile phones and laptops on charge unnecessarily.
It noted one in five people constantly keep devices plugged in at home to maintain full charge as they are worried about running out of battery when they are one the move.
However, ten per cent admitted they are too lazy to unplug their gadgets.
Spokeswoman for E.ON Emma Thompson said that as people use more and more gadgets in their everyday lives: "It's crucial that we keep an eye on how much money and energy we're wasting keeping them charging when we don't need to."
Recently, it was also claimed by the University of Salford that the high number of gadgets used could add £150 to the average home's electricity bill, the Press Association reported.
