A large number of people may look to switch gas supplier in order to get cheap energy, as the cost of this necessity is said to be a concern to many individuals.
This is according to Citizen's Advice Scotland (CAS), which stated its advisers have seen a significant rise in the number of consumers seeking help with rising bills, the Courier reports.
Head of policy at the organisation Susan McPhee said: "There is a big concern about the behaviour of utility companies - much of which was based on the issue of high fuel bills."
CAS observed 22 per cent of people stated the cost of fuel is one of their top two concerns going into 2012 - up from 12 per cent last year.
Problems with paying for gas end electricity could drive many people into debt, which was said to be the key issue for 21 per cent of individuals.
Last week, it was noted by Scotland's housing minister Keith Brown that 34,000 residents in the country have taken advantage of the Home Energy Scotland Hotline to find out what benefits they are entitled to in order to help meet energy bills.
