Individuals looking to find an energy supplier using green power sources may be pleased to hear Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) is increasing its use of wind technology.
The company noted that due to new investments in large capital projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland, it now has over one gigawatt of capacity in operation using onshore wind farms for the first time.
Chief executive of the firm Ian Marchant said: "The safe and timely delivery of new assets is a key priority for SSE and passing the one gigawatt milestone for onshore wind farm capacity is a very positive development as we start the new year."
In the first nine months of the current financial year, SSE has added an extra 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity due to progress made at sites such as Clyde, Griffin and Gordonbush in Scotland, while the company's total power generated from this renewable energy source has grown significantly from the 40 MW it was creating six years ago.
Recent figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change revealed the UK has seen over £2.5 billion worth of investment in green power this financial year.
