A Lottery-funded initiative is hoping to encourage residents of the Longhill estate in Hull to improve their sustainability, go green and reduce their fuel bills.
The Hull Daily Mail reports that Environmental and Management Solutions will lead a collaboration with the city council, Hull college, renewable energy specialists KMS, Probe and Prestone Road Neighbourhood Development Company during the scheme.
It will involve setting up a homecare project to encourage members of the public to buy locally-sourced fruit and vegetables and grow their own produce.
Furthermore, organisers will undertake an energy efficiency survey and set up a number of community events to encourage environmental awareness.
"We want to support local communities to make greener choices to improve their quality of life and help them to become resilient to the changing environment," head of the Big Lottery Fund for Yorkshire and the Humber Vanessa White was quoted by the publication as saying.
She noted the schemes could prompt people to change their lifestyles, which could make sustainable habits "second-nature to us all".
