The government's Green Deal scheme to help people get cheap energy by renovating their homes has the potential to do a lot of good, but it needs to be improved.
This is according to David Hunt, sales and marketing director at Eco Environment, who told the Greenbuild Expo in Manchester the plan "could be a great piece of legislation, but is riddled, as far as I can see, with holes".
He said there is currently a lack of information being provided to the energy industry about the Green Deal, while there is also a level of confusion about what the plans will and will not do to help the installation of renewable technologies.
However, he added the proposals could be good for the green sector, as it will encourage more people to investigate ways of making their homes more energy efficient, which will support the economy as well as helping individuals cut their gas and electricity bills.
This week, figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change revealed domestic energy bills are likely to be £94 cheaper by 2020 because of the impact of green policies than if low-carbon measures are not implemented.
