Home and business energy supplier SSE has been named the Official Energy Partner of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The sporting event is due to be held in Glasgow and the opening ceremony will take place on July 23rd 2014 at the city's Celtic Park.
SSE, which is the second biggest energy retailer in the UK, is the first firm based in the country to be named as a partner.
Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said: "We're proud to be associated with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
"We are really looking forward to helping make these Games come alive for them [local residents] and their communities."
He added that the company is already involved in several local sporting events, through sponsorship of cricket, football, golf, shinty, rugby and sailing teams.
Mr Marchant claimed SSE intends to make its sponsorship of the Commonweath Games "innovative and quirky" without being corporate and "boring".
