The National Home Improvement Council has called energy efficient additions to properties "crucial".
Andrew Leech, director at the organisation, said that people in the UK should be making their homes more sustainable but lack the finances to do so.
He called on the chancellor of the exchequer, George Osborne, to focus on this issue in his upcoming Budget.
Mr Leech commented: "Obviously it is all very well to look at new kitchens and new bathrooms and special heating, but really homeowners should be looking at energy efficient measures to improve their homes".
"That includes loft insulation and cavity wall insulation because that is the most crucial thing to be doing these days."
A number of energy suppliers already offer green home improvements to their customers. Britons interested in such services could compare energy providers to find the best deal to suit them.
