90% are worried about energy bills - 15/06/2011

Concerns about the impact of price rises implemented by the Big Six energy suppliers are rife among UK consumers, research has found.

A survey by Which? revealed just a third of people feel confident in the current economic climate, while almost nine in ten (89 per cent) domestic energy users are worried about the cost of their bills.

Executive director of the consumer group Richard Lloyd remarked: "Consumers are most worried about the spiralling costs of energy, yet more price hikes are on the horizon, and there's a limit to how much people can cut their spending on essentials."

He added: "A reduction in red tape for small energy suppliers will make it easier for them to take on the Big Six, but … we really need wholesale reform."
