SSE refutes 'predatory pricing' claim - 02/05/2012

SSE has dismissed a recent report that alleged all of the Big Six energy suppliers are engaged in 'predatory pricing' tactics.

This was among the findings of a study by the Institute for Public Policy Research, which said Ofgem needs to act in order to drive competition in the energy market.

SSE said that while it agrees with the assessment the energy regulator must do more, it refuted the allegation all the major suppliers are involved.

Chief executive Ian Marchant said: "We've made our position on 'predatory pricing' very clear – we don't do it ... In SSE's view, ending this practice is one of the most important steps to improving the energy market."

The supplier also highlighted figures that reveal it has the smallest price differential between its cheapest and most expensive tariffs of any major provider.
