At a time when many business energy users are looking to implement green policies in the workplace, the farming industry has gone one step further by seeking to cut three million tonnes of carbon emissions.Business Green reports that the sector, which produces nine per cent of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions, has introduced a three-step plan to reduce wastage by 2022.Gwyn Jones, vice president of the National Farmers Union, commented: "The main focus of our action plan concerns how farmers and growers can become more efficient, producing more with fewer resources and fewer emissions."He added: "This is good news for farm businesses and good news for the environment. By optimising our production efficiency, we can actually reduce emissions per unit of output."To kick-start the action plan, the government is investing £12.6 million to improve the monitoring of on-farm greenhouse gas emissions and advise those in the sector how to reduce waste in all parts of the supply chain.Save thousands on your commercial energy bills - visit energyhelpline.com or call us on 0800 970 26 26
