Organisations spread cheap energy scheme around UK - 29/07/2009

Homeowners looking to switch energy companies and get better access to cheaper rates could benefit from a scheme from Somer Community Housing Trust and Southern Electric.

The organisations have spent more than £750,000 over the past eight years helping homeowners to install energy-efficient measures throughout north-east Somerset, Bath and south Gloucestershire, with 1,000 loft insulation jobs having been completed since 2002.

In addition, measures such as installing thermostatic radiator valves and energy-efficient boilers can all be taken care of, while residents can also get help if they are unsure whether they are paying the lowest available energy tariffs.

Stephen Millward, Southern Electric's energy efficiency manager, said: "It's very important that we take a responsible approach to providing the energy people need and part of that approach involves encouraging customers to use energy carefully and reducing subsequent carbon dioxide emissions."

The government recently pledged to insulate every UK home within the next few years to help tackle high prices from energy companies.
