An expert has hailed the government's green loans scheme, which is designed to help homeowners improve their cheap energy efficiency.
Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said the initiative is essential if the UK is to meet its targets of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.
He explained that retrofitting homes with energy efficiency measures is also "absolutely critical" in order to cut down on emissions.
"There is a lot of appetite from people to [have] more awareness of how they can do things," Mr Miller said, "how they can save money, how they can bring renewable technologies to the house - solar energy and PV panels, things like this."
He added that the green loans will be especially welcome for more expensive eco measures such as installing PV panels, which could cost up to £12,000.
The government's cheap energy efficiency scheme is designed to help people make smarter use of energy in their homes and reduce bills by up to £380 a year.
