New cheap energy scheme aims to help vulnerable households - 01/04/2010
Thousands of homes in Norwich are set to benefit from a new cheap energy scheme in order to reduce bill costs from energy suppliers.
As part of the Anglican Go Warm scheme, which is co-organised by the city council, 2,000 homes will receive free energy saving measures to reduce their carbon emissions and save money, reports the Norwich Evening News.
Homeowners will have their properties assessed by Go Warm professionals and those who qualify will receive free cavity wall and loft insulation. Non-priority households will have to pay £149 for the insulation.
James Beal, managing director of Renewables East and programme director, told the Norwich Evening News: "The East of England Development Agency has given us £280,000 over two years for the Go Warm scheme.
"We aim to visit 50,000 homes across the region and deliver energy saving and efficiency advice."
According to National Energy Action, millions of people in the UK live in fuel poverty and around 20,000 to 30,000 more people die in the UK during the winter compared to the rest of the year.
