Renewable business energy industry 'can propel UK economic growth' - 24/05/2010

The renewable business energy industry can play a positive role in the UK's economic growth, it has been suggested.

According to the Renewable Energy Centre, with more renewable energy schemes being planned and implemented, a new set of skills and manufacturing opportunities will emanate from this and impact the economy in a beneficial way.

The organisation stressed that it is critical for the UK to embrace renewable energy in order to take full advantage of the potential revenues the industry could generate and this will have to involve government support and training.

A spokesperson for the Renewable Energy Centre said the green energy industry needs an investment of around £11 billion per year in order to achieve carbon dioxide reductions of 1.1 billion tonnes by 2050.

"Sadly, with a country in economic crisis such as ours, it is unlikely that this kind of investment would or will be possible," the spokesperson commented.
