Energy suppliers EDF are planning to build two new nuclear reactors in the Hinkley area of Somerset.
If built, the nuclear stations would be the biggest development seen in the south-west and could provide local firms with a steady supply of business energy and power five million homes.
The development represents £14 billion worth of investment in the region and would create jobs in the engineering, construction, manufacturing and hospitality sectors.
Corinne Matthews, West Somerset Council's economic regeneration manager, told the BBC: "There's going to be a massive opportunity for the supply chain companies to get involved, not just for the construction on site but all the other services required."
She added that the council intends to influence EDF to make sure local businesses do not miss out during the tendering process for contracts.
EDF is hosting the UK Suppliers Day conference today (Tuesday July 6th) at Express Park, Brigwater, aimed at companies based in the Somerset area.
