Many people may consider opting for a renewable energy deal when they look for cheap electricity providers in order to find a cheaper tariff.
According to a new poll conducted by YouGov for the Sunday Times, 56 per cent of people in the UK believe the government should be looking to invest more in wind power, while 74 per cent want to see greater use of solar energy.
Six out of ten supported subsidies to encourage the use of wind-generated electricity, while 47 per cent said the technology is a realistic way of combating climate change.
Support for another alternative to fossil fuels - nuclear power - was more mixed, with 35 per cent in favour of additional investment, while 27 per cent wanted less use of the energy source and 23 per cent believed it should remain at current levels.
The survey was welcomed by director of policy at RenewableUK Dr Gordon Edge, who said it "demonstrates that even in difficult economic times, the public understands why the expansion of wind power is important".
