Consumers worried about their energy bills might be inclined to compare energy tariffs from other energy suppliers after British Gas pulled the cheapest deal on the market.
The WebSaver 11+ One-Off Repairs deal has been replaced with the WebSaver 12, which will cost customers around £24 more a year compared with the previous tariff.
Mark Todd, director of energy comparison site Energyhelpline.com, commented: "British Gas is clearly protecting its margins with these new tariffs and highlighting the direct impact of wholesale increases on the residential market.
He added: "Things are not getting any better in the energy market, so if customers want to fight back and save money they have to switch and switch now."
It comes after British Gas parent company Centrica warned of possible price hikes before winter due to soaring wholesale prices.
