Businesses worried about high energy bills - 02/02/2010

Firms may be planning to switch energy companies because of high bills, a new survey suggests.

According to a study released by the Carbon Trust, half (49 per cent) of companies are worried about rising business energy prices from their energy suppliers.

The poll, which questioned around 700 companies, found that concerns about energy prices hikes are most pronounced in industries with high business energy use.

More than half (55 per cent) of construction firms are worried about high energy prices, followed by 53 per cent of companies in the manufacturing sector and 52 per cent in the hospitality industry.

Just 13 per cent of respondents said they are worried about complying with environmental legislation, while 20 per cent said they are concerned about a change in government.

The Carbon Trust recently launched new guidelines aimed at helping companies cut up to £3 billion in energy wastage by significantly trimming their energy usage.
