'Corporate agenda' will determine sustainability of office building - 14/12/2010

Business energy accountholders are likely to follow a "corporate agenda" in making their workplaces more sustainable, retail managing firm Hammerson has stated.

According to Paul Edwards, head of sustainability at the company, organisations will use the green movement to boost their own image in a bid to attract more customers.

Soon, "people will start to only want to go to green buildings because their business will have to be associated with it".

Sustainable office properties might not seem inherently valuable at the moment, but "you will start to see tenants move away from buildings that don't have any green value to them at all because it is part of their corporate agendas", Mr Edwards added.

His comments come as research by Carbon Trust Advisory revealed large UK business energy users waste £1.6 billion a year in not deploying energy efficiency measures in the workplace.
