Businesses can save money by going green - 21/02/2011

Business energy clients could save money by minimising their waste, an environmental charity has pointed out.

Sam Jarvis, head of communications at Waste Watch, commented: "Businesses are persuaded by the financial savings they could make by reducing waste.

"At the same time, businesses are increasingly making the environment one of the key factors, as well as looking at how much money and profit they make," he said.

Companies of all sizes are considering ways in which they can lessen their impact on the planet's resources and this could include changing to green energy tariffs.

"Clearly it's slightly more difficult for small and medium enterprises to get started and that's where organisations like our own come in, in terms of supporting smaller organisations to get onto this journey of sustainability," added Mr Jarvis.

His comments come after the first meeting of the Green Economy Council took place to discuss ways in which government and industry can make the smooth transition to a low carbon economy.
