Industry 'must work' to improve efficiency - 13/12/2011

Business energy clients looking to switch energy suppliers to a cheaper deal may agree with one group's statement that the efficiency measures of enterprises must be improved.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said firms must work with the government to cut carbon emissions, which will help give them a competitive advantage as well as lower their bills.

Speaking alongside business secretary Vince Cable at an event organised by the Green Alliance, deputy director-general of the organisation Dr Neil Bentley said economic growth will be threatened if action is not taken.

"The CBI continues to believe you need to be green [as well as] grow," he said, adding: "Framed correctly, environmental goals can help us achieve our economic goals."

He called for the government to help by providing clarity and consistency in its long-term policies in order to give businesses the confidence to invest.

Recently, npower urged firms looking to reduce their fuel bills to monitor their energy usage carefully during peak periods this winter to identify where savings can be made.
