Riba warns govt over energy saving - 05/04/2012
The Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) has highlighted potential problems with government carbon-saving policies, which could leave consumers and business energy users confused and paying more for gas and electricity.
It has expressed concerns to energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey that the coalition has shown inconsistency by opposing measures such as the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), while emphasising the importance of cutting carbon output.
Head of external affairs at Riba Anna Scott-Marshall said: "The government's current position on the EED is confusing and causing us some concern."
Therefore, the group urged the collation to pursue a more ambitious strategy for the reduction of emissions and the implementation of energy efficiency schemes.
The administration's current positions do not inspire confidence in the green building sector and call into question claims it would be the "greenest government ever", Riba stated.
Last month, a YouGov poll found only two per cent of people believe the coalition has fully lived up to this pledge, with over half of respondents rating its performance as 'average'.
