Green firms 'may see a boost in reputation' - 27/04/2012

Business energy users that have made efforts to go green could find there are a range of benefits to this beyond cheap electricity and lower emissions.

Louise Burfitt-Dons, campaigner director at the Global Warming Alliance, observed firms that switch energy deals to a green option could boost their reputation among customers.

"Since the public have become more environmentally aware, they value commercial enterprises which take the trouble to care for the planet," she said.

Therefore, they could see increased business on top of the potential savings that can be made from monitoring energy usage, adopting renewable sources of power or implementing recycling programmes.

Customers may also have more respect for firms that implement policies such as paperless billing, which is a widely accepted practice that provides both environmental and financial savings, the expert noted.

Firms may also like to consider how they manage operations such as IT, as Greenpeace recently criticised several major companies, including Microsoft and Apple, for using fossil fuels to run their energy-intensive data centres.
